OUR GOALS

• Ensure a skatepark and skate obstacles are included within the re-development of Britannia Community Services Centre ("Britannia Renewal").

• Work with the skate community and Britannia Community Services Centre to provide a safe, clean, and welcoming skateboard space for everyone.

HISTORY

The Courts skatepark was founded in 2017 and has become a core part of the Vancouver skateboard culture and community.

After learning in August 2021 a skatepark was not included in the re-development of Britannia ("Britannia Renewal") and the Courts was going to be demolished, we got to work by:

- Meeting with Britannia Executives

- Presenting at Britannia Committees & Boards

- Creating and submitting video and written testimonials

- Raising awareness at community events with info tables

- Building renderings of what a skatepark "could" look like

Following this, we decided to create an official committee under Britannia Community Services Centre by writing a Terms of Reference & Community Guidelines document. As of the March 9, 2022 Britannia Board of Directors meeting, we are now an official committee that is funded and supported by the community centre.

We thank the Britannia Community Services Centre and look forward to working together!

Sincerely,

Britannia Skateboard Committee

OBSTACLES ARE BUILT FOR AND BY THE COMMUNITY ALLOWING FOR SKILL BUILDING, CREATIVITY, AND COMMUNITY BUILDING.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME NO MATTER YOUR AGE, IDENTITY, OR SKILL LEVEL.

THERE ARE LIGHTS TO ALLOW SKATEBOARDING AT NIGHT!

OBSTACLES ARE MOVEABLE ALLOWING FOR ALL SKILL LEVELS TO ENJOY.

IT IS A SOCIAL SPACE THAT WELCOMES PEOPLE THROUGH EVENTS AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT.

WE WILL

• Maintain and improve obstacles at the Courts in collaboration with the skateboard community.

• Collaborate with other community groups on events and workshops.

• Act as a liaison for Britannia Community Services Centre to solve and prevent any problems.

• Provide feedback on a future skatepark and skate obstacles within the Britannia Renewal.
